This 12-Day Rwanda and Uganda Luxury Gorilla Tour will give you an experience of some of the best wildlife experiences in both countries. The two countries are home to some of the remaining mountain gorillas found in the wild worldwide. Each offers a different experience in gorilla and chimpanzee trekking experiences due to the terrain and vegetation of the two countries. And lastly, you will have an experience at Queen Elizabeth National Park for some big game hunting experiences and to break up the trip to Kibale National Park.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Kigali for the Rwanda and Uganda Gorillas tour

Amakula African Safaris driver guide will pick you up from Kigali International Airport and transfer you to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you can take a Kigali city tour of selected sites before retiring to your hotel later.

Driving time: 20 minutes

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nyungwe Forest in Rwanda This morning after breakfast, your naturalist guide will begin the journey with you to Nyungwe Forest National Park to enjoy the chimpanzee trekking and canopy walking experience.

Depending on your interest, we can make a stopover in Nyanza for the Palace of the Kings experience or the ethnographic museum in Huye for an experience about the history and culture of the Rwandan people. Please note that due to the journey ahead, you can only stop at one of them to avoid a rushed trip to your accommodation later that night.

Day 3: Trekking with chimpanzees and Canopy walk Nyungwe forest

The chimpanzee trekking starts early in the morning, in fact you are expected to be at the meeting place at 5:00 am. This may require you to leave your hotel room at 4:30 am. Upon arrival at the information point, you will meet and listen to the ranger’s guide. After this, you will be assigned a trekking team to start on the Uwinka or Cyamudongo trails. The canopy walk will be right after the chimpanzee walk or in the afternoon if you prefer to rest before doing it, depending on the location of the hotel/lodge.

Nyungwe Forest is home to 13 primates and they offer walks with colobus monkeys as a separate experience. If you are interested in botany, the flora in Nyungwe comes as an added bonus; You will also have the opportunity to see the other inhabitants of the forest.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

In the morning, after leaving the lodge, we will leave for the Volcanoes National Park, where we will prepare for gorilla tracking the next day. The trip to the park is through winding roads due to the many hills. Enjoy the scenery of Lake Kivu in the background as you drive to Volcanoes National Park for a gorilla rendezvous.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Gorilla trekking is the top bucket list experience for many people traveling to Rwanda. Volcanoes National Park protects the steep slopes of this magnificent mountain range where gorilla tracking occurs. After an early breakfast, we will leave at 6:30 am for the briefing before starting the gorilla trek at 7 am

Enjoy the park with its different vegetation of evergreen and bamboo forest, open grasslands, swamps and heaths. The highlight of your trek will be spending an hour with the remarkably peaceful gorillas as they go about their daily lives, feeding, playing, resting and raising their young. Come prepared to enter the jungles and live an once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda

Today we move to Uganda through the Cyanika border post to the Bwindi impenetrable forest. The trip to the Ugandan border from Musanze is less than an hour by car. After crossing, we continued our journey through the rolling hills of Kigezi to our lodge for the night in the impenetrable Bwindi National Park.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

Early in the morning, the driver guide will pick you up from the camp and drive you to the park office at 7 am for briefing and then start the gorilla trekking at 8 am The head ranger guide will give general information and then meet You will distribute into different groups according to the group of gorillas you will track. In his group, he can receive more information before leaving with his team of guides and porters. Even if you are an experienced hiker, we recommend that you take a porter with you to help you, especially on the steep slopes, while you hike and also carry your lunch pack. The trek can take anywhere from minutes to several hours depending on where the gorillas nested the night before. It is an unforgettable experience to spend an hour observing these amazing creatures.

Day 8: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

We left for Queen Elizabeth National Park after relaxing from all the gorilla trekking of the last few days. Your naturalist guide will continue with you to this beautiful park located between the Rwenzori escarpment and mountains.

Day 9: Game drive and boat safari

Start your day early with a morning game drive to the Uganda Kob mating ground on the Kasenyi Plains in search of the lions. Keep an eye out for lions, wild boars, elephants, kobs, antelope, buffalo, etc.

Take advantage of the afternoon to take a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Edward. Our possible sightings include buffalo and elephants coming for an afternoon drink along with hippos and crocodiles making it their home. There is a bird sanctuary on the canal with several species of birds that will keep you on your toes as your guide describes each of them and some of their characteristics.

Day 10: Transfer to Kibale National Park

After this experience, we begin the trip to Kibale national park. The journey is through the beautiful crater area with lakes and views of the Rwenzori Mountains.

Day 11: Trekking with chimpanzees in Kibale national park

Kibale National Park covers an area of ​​about 795 km2. It is one of the most beautiful rainforests in Uganda and is home to 12 primates. After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kanyanchu Visitor Center for a briefing before chimpanzee trekking. You will then be divided into smaller groups and joined by your ranger guide depending on which chimpanzee community you visit. During this trek, you may encounter other primates such as black and white colobus monkey, grey-cheeked mangabey, red-tailed monkey, etc. and several butterflies.

Lunch will be at the lodge after the hike or at a farmhouse offering traditional local foods. After lunch visit Bigodi Swamp, a community initiative to conserve the swamp and trees with various primates and birds.

Day 12: End of your gorilla tour in Rwanda and Uganda

After breakfast, your Amakula African Safaris driver guide will transfer you to Entebbe Airport for your outbound flight.
